Fertility Drugs for Women

There are a lot of women all around the world who face problems in getting pregnant. Infertility is mainly caused by problems related to ovulation. Fertility drugs refer to those drugs which are prescribed by the doctors for influencing ovulation in infertile women. Drugs are given to the patients either for inducing or strengthening ovulation or repressing it. In a large number of cases, fertility drugs are used for the treatment of ovulation problems and recurrent miscarriages. Along with this, there may be some other cases in which fertility drugs are used to help women produce more eggs. Here are some of the fertility drugs which are most commonly prescribed for the infertile women.

Letrozole or Femera is very effective in the inducement of ovulation in women. This drug is mainly used for the treatment of postmenopausal women who suffer from breast cancer. This drug is used less frequently as it may lead to several birth defects if consumed during pregnancy period. It is commonly prescribed before a woman gets pregnant. Serophene or clomid is one of the most effective fertility drugs. Most of the doctors first prescribe this drug for the treatment of ovulation problems. It has minimum of side effects.

Fertility Drugs for Women

Gonal-F and Follistim are also prescribed by the doctors for the treatment of infertility. They are made by DNS Recombinant technology. These drugs promote the growth and maturity of oocytes in the ovaries of women. These drugs are taken through injections. Fertinex and Bravelle are different from FSH as they are not artificially manufactured in the laboratory. For making these drugs the hormone is taken out from the urine of postmenopausal women. These drugs are not so expensive as well. Usually, women take these drugs by themselves through injections at home.

Cetrotide and Antagon are those drugs which are used for repressing ovulation. These drugs are generally used for those patients who undergo IVF treatment. These drugs are also prescribed for the prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in women. Lupron, Pergonal, Menopur, Zoladex etc. are some other fertility drugs used for treating infertile women.
