How to Get Pregnant

So, you’ve finally decided that you’re ready for one of the most special experiences that you can have as a woman; you want to have a baby. Just the thought of it gives you goose bumps doesn’t it? Well, before you start trying, you need to be in good health, and you need to be prepared.

a title=”How to Get Pregnant”>How to Get PregnantWhen I say you need to be prepared, I mean that you need to get rid of/stop doing anything that might hamper your chances of getting pregnant. If you’re using any form of contraception, discontinue it. If you’re on contraceptive pills, simply stop at the end of your cycle, and your chances would be the same as those who never took any. Also, if you have an intra-uterine device implanted, you obviously need to get that removed as well.

If you’re taking Depo-Provera injections, you will have to wait for nine to ten months after you stop taking them to achieve pregnancy. Since you need to be in perfect health, know that smoking does make it difficult to conceive. So does stress. Also, if your weight is more than or less than what it should be according to your height, try and achieve the right weight. According to a study, many women who were previously unable to conceive were able to do so after reaching the ideal weight for their body.

How to Get PregnantNext comes the right time. We all know that ovulation takes place 14 days after your period starts. But not every one has a consistent 28 days period. Studies have shown that the probably of getting pregnant is highest during the week before and on the day of ovulation. Then comes the actual act of love-making. Have sex frequently during your fertility period. Once a week sex has a far lesser chance of getting you pregnant than if you have sex daily when fertile. The missionary position is considered by doctors the best if you’re trying to conceive. Because it allows for a deeper penetration, the sperm has a higher chance of reaching the egg and fertilising it, thereby increasing your chances of getting pregnant.

How to Get PregnantAlso, don’t douche after you’ve had sex. This flushes out cervical fluid which helps the sperm reach the uterus. Avoid any artificial lubricants when having sex as there is a chance they might end up killing sperm. Of course you don’t have to restrict yourself to having sex only when you’re fertile. Having sex often can actually help you catch your most fertile phase, besides being a lot of fun! And most importantly, be patient. Even if you do everything the right way and at the right time, you still only have a 20-25% chance of making it. So if it doesn’t happen the first time, don’t get all disappointed. But if you’ve been trying for more than six months or more without success, please consult a doctor. Here onwards, a doctor will be the best guide for you.
